Tourneys take place

Bethlehem Catholic ran away with the team title at the Tony Iasiello Christmas City Tournament last week. The Hawks came away with seven champions and placed 13 wrestlers at their annual tournament to give them some momentum heading into the New Year.

The champions for the Hawks included Reef Dillard (114); Mason Thomas (127); Ryder Campbell (133); Marco Frinzi (139); Shane McFillin (145); Kollin Rath (152) and Dario Cruz (172).

Second place medalists included Charlie Scanlan (160) and James Deluise (189), while Louden Hower (107) and Jacob Lance (215) each took third. Adrian Victoria (121) and James Bozzi (189) both came home with sixth place finishes.

The Hawks finished with 263.5 team points to outpace Oxford Area (204) and Western Wayne (184.5) in the top three of the team standings.

Across town, Freedom’s Jared Karabinus was the only city champion at the Bethlehem Holiday Wrestling Classic at Memorial Gymnasium.

Karabinus held off Spring-Ford’s Mason Richards by a 4-3 margin in the 189-pound championship. The only other Patriot to place at the event was Ivan Bonilla taking eighth place at 160.

Liberty’s Dante Morrison was the lone medalist for the Hurricanes, taking fourth at 215.

All three teams get back into league action this Wednesday with Freedom hosting Pleasant Valley and Liberty taking on Dieruff.

Bethlehem Catholic has East Stroudsburg North, but cap off the week with a 7 p.m. showdown at Notre Dame-Green Pond on Saturday.
