Girls hoop teams take part in tournaments

Bethlehem Catholic, Freedom, and Liberty’s girls basketball teams spent part of their holiday break sharpening their game in tournaments in various parts of Pennsylvania before their scheduled return to conference play this week.

Bethlehem Catholic traveled west to the E-town Showdown and came home with a 54-46 win over York Catholic on Dec. 30 at Elizabethtown College.

Freedom took a quick trip to Easton Area Middle School for the Easton Rotary Club Holiday Tournament and played Phillipsburg, losing, 57-49, on Dec. 27 and fell to Emmaus, 47-27, on Dec. 28.

Liberty headed north to Riverside Junior/Senior High School for two games, dropping the first to Abington Heights, 47-30, on Dec. 26 and winning the second over West Scranton, 65-37, on Dec. 28.

Iysis Nickens tallied 22 points between the two games for the Hurricanes.

This week, Freedom and Becahi will face off in a city rivalry game at Freedom, and Liberty will travel to Easton to take on the Red Rovers, all on Jan. 4.
