The Emmaus High School girls basketball team had an undefeated week last week in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference action, winning both of its league games before falling to Scranton in a nonleague game to conclude the week.
The Hornets beat Allen 50-20 last Tuesday night and followed that with their widest margin of victory of the season, beating East Stroudsburg North 59-7. They welcomed Scranton to the Hive and lost 47-44 last Saturday.
Emmaus scored 19 of the game’s first 24 points against Allen to stake to an early, sizable lead and never looked back. They also outscored the Canaries 13-2 in the third quarter to ease their way to victory. Freshman Kayla Snyder led the way with a game-high 14 points, including four three-pointers. Sophomore Gabby DeVita tallied 10 points and Sylvia Sokolofski contributed eight.
In the victory over the Timberwolves, the Green Hornets didn’t allow a single point in both the second and fourth quarters and held a 23-4 lead after the opening quarter. Snyder tallied a team-best 11 points, DeVita, Emma Naccarato and Sofie Laird all recorded six points and Taylor Griffith added five points.
Emmaus led for a majority of the game with the Knights, but was outscored 16-6 in the fourth quarter as Scranton rallied to come away with the win. Cassandra Doemling finished with a team-high 16 points and DeVita scored 12. Mya Cooper just missed double figures, finishing with nine points.
Emmaus has two conference games this week before the Christmas break. The Green Hornets were at Liberty this past Tuesday night and host Central Catholic on Thursday night. Next week, they will compete in the Easton Rotary Club Tournament on Wednesday and Thursday at Easton Area Middle School.
