EHS boys improve to 4-0 in EPC play
The Emmaus High School boys basketball team stayed undefeated in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference action during the 2023-24 regular season with two double-digit victories against conference opponents last week, both at home, and then finished off the week with a nonconference win on the road to improve its record to 7-1 overall and 4-0 in the EPC.
The Green Hornets began the week with a 76-44 win over Allen last Tuesday, Dec. 12, and then claimed their fourth conference win in-a-row three nights later in a 75-59 win against East Stroudsburg North on Friday. They followed that up with their closest margin of victory on the season in defeating Governor Mifflin 62-56 on the road on Saturday.
Emmaus used a strong first quarter to jump out in front of the Canaries, and then put the game away with a strong fourth quarter. Seniors Will Barber and Jametric Harris combined to score more than half of their team’s 76 points as Barber tallied a game-high 20 points and Harris recorded 19 to pace the offense. Teague McCourt also finished in double figures in scoring with 12 points Jack Curley-Katrishen added nine for the Green Hornets.
Against the Timberwolves there were four Emmaus players scoring double digits, led by 22 points from Barber. McCourt tallied 20, Harris recorded 12 and Rafael Terrero totaled 11. The Green Hornets doubled up ES North in the first quarter, outscoring them 22-11 and held a 35-21 lead at halftime.
In the nonleague victory over the Mustangs, Emmaus was outscored in both the third and fourth quarters (32-28), but were able to hold on because of a second quarter in which they rallied for a 19-10 advantage after leading by one (15-14) after the opening quarter. Harris paced the scoring output with 24 points and Barber contributed 17.
Emmaus hosted Liberty at Emmaus High School this past Tuesday night and will play its final game of 2023 when it hits the road to take on defending EPC champion, Central Catholic on Thursday night.
