Yard waste drop-off hours continued through March 31 in Upper Milford

Although 2024 is just getting started, township business is off to a promising start.

On Jan. 2, the boards of supervisors in Lower and Upper Milford townships met to reorganize and get to work.

Upper Milford Township supervisors will next meet 7 p.m. Jan. 18.

Lower Milford Township supervisors next meet 6:30 p.m. Feb. 15, according to the calendar on the township website.

For Upper Milford Township residents whose Christmas and New Year holidays included yard work, here is a reminder about the winter hours for waste drop off. Through March 31, drop off hours are 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesday and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday.

The drop-off site is located behind the township garage and accessed by Church View Road. Acceptable items include grass, leaves and brush or branches.

Yard waste must be kept separated and unloaded at the appropriate location as identified by the signs at the drop-off site.

Branches are limited to 4 inches in diameter and no longer than 8 feet.

For additional details, check out the township newsletter posted to the township website at www.uppermilford.net.

The slower pace, for some, of the holidays may have allowed a bit more time for reading and Lower Milford Township residents interested in furthering their reading practice may want to check into upcoming books discussion groups available at Southern Lehigh Library, the home library for residents, at 3200 Preston Lane, Center Valley.

The “Literary Lit” group will meet 1 p.m. Jan. 15 to discuss Ann Napolitano’s “Hello Beautiful.” The group will meet 1 p.m. Feb. 19 to talk about “Eternal” by Lisa Scottoline.

The “Southern Leigh Public Library Evening Discussion Group” meets 7 p.m. Jan. 18 to talk about “Our Missing Hearts” by Celeste Ng.

Taylor Jenkins Reid’s “Daisy Jones and the Six” will be discussed Feb. 15.

Visit the library website www.solehipl.org for additional details on adult, children’s and special programs at the library.

This time of year may heighten awareness of stray animals for residents in the townships.

Upper Milford Township’s animal contract is with Lehigh County Humane Society for 2024. The township asks the following:

“If you find a stray animal that you can’t hold while searching for the owner, please contact the LCHS for drop off information.”

A link for LCHS is available on the township website.

Contact the township office with questions at 610-966-3223 or email info@uppermilford.net.

According to news coverage in this issue, Lower Milford Township contracts with No Nonsense Neutering. Further details are anticipated, according to the township website.

Check the township website for tips on what to do if you find a stray dog or cat or if your pet gets lost.

Enjoy the year ahead.
