The last Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners meeting for the year was held Dec. 21, 2023 at the township building. With the budget approved, rate adjustments are still being considered. One of which is the sewer rates and strength of waste surcharge. Sewer rates are to be raised about $4 a quarter for the average customer. This takes into consideration the need for the strength of waste surcharge due to additional industrial sites within the township.
This was approved with Ron Beitler voting no. Beitler said he does not feel it is necessary to raise rates especially during this time of excessive inflation.
A bid award was made for the Cured-in-Place-Pipe Sanitary Sewer Relining project. There were seven bidders with Mr. Rehab out of Mechanicsburg having the lowest bid. The amount for the bid is $799,520 which is lower than what the township expected.
The new rate schedule was approved with some rates increasing such as recreation fees, planning commission and building permits.
Macungie Borough and Lower Macungie Township Fire Department entered into an agreement for fire protection for Macungie Borough. This 3-year agreement includes a $90,000 annual contribution and a one time capital contribution of $10,000.
A subdivision at 1741 Trexlertown Road has been disapproved due to lack of timely progress. This agreement was with PA Venture Capital.
Ordinance 2023-07 amends Chapter 15 for motor vehicles and traffic for speed limit, regulatory signs and bridge weights. This was approved by the commissioners.
The next board of commissioners meeting was to be held Jan. 2, 2024 for the purpose of reorganizing for the new year.
