Whitehall swimming coach Pete Rile let it be known that the natatorium’s record board would be undergoing some changes this season, and on Dec. 19, Whitehall senior Aaron Stinner broke two records in the Zephyrs’ meet against Parkland.
First, Stinner broke Whitehall’s pool record in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:45.93. Then, Stinner broke a 47-year-old school record in the 100 butterfly with a time of 52.99.
Teammate Ian Thomas won the 200 IM in 2:03.96 and the 100 free in 49.38.
Also earning first-place points for the Zephyrs was the 200 free relay team of Thomas, Gabe O’Brien, Andrew Deutsch, and Stinner in a close race that beat the Parkland relay, 1:33.57-1:34.52.
In girls results, Whitehall’s Kyra Giedl missed first place in the 100 free by a touch to Parkland’s Kaley McKenzie, 1:02.19-1:02.67.
Kendra Musselman and Giedl earned second and third-place points in the 100 backstroke with times of 1:13.54 and 1:15.42, respectively.
Parkland’s Kelsey McPeek broke the 100 breaststroke pool record with a time of 1:05.73.
Team scores were Parkland girls 125 - Whitehall girls 44, and Parkland boys 113 - Whitehall boys 56.
The Zephyrs will ring in the new year with a road trip to Freedom on Jan. 3.
