Jenkins honored
Moravian University junior quarterback Jared Jenkins (Freedom HS) and junior defensive lineman Prince Sokpo (Somerset, N.J./Milton Hershey HS) have been named to the 2023 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Football Team for NCAA Division III schools.
To be eligible for CSC Academic All-America® honors, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.50 grade-point average, be a sophomore, junior or senior and be a starter or significant reserve that has played in 90-percent of the team’s contests or started 66-percent of the team’s games in 2023.
Moravian has had 56 Greyhounds named CSC Academic All-Americans®.
Academic All-District® honorees are considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. The CSC Academic All-America® teams will be announced Tuesday, Jan. 23.
The duo helped the Greyhounds to a 4-6 mark this year including a 3-3 mark in the inaugural Landmark Conference campaign on the gridiron.
Jenkins, a finance major with a 3.75 GPA, started all ten games for the Hounds this fall.
He set four school records for Moravian this season including completions with 244, attempts with 381, touchdowns with 26 and pass efficiency rating at 139.56.
Jenkins, who was selected to the Landmark All-Conference First Team, threw for 2,737 yards, the third best season in school history, to become the tenth Greyhound to surpass 3,000 career passing yards, and Jenkins finished the year with 2,845 yards of total offense. He also threw for five two-point conversions and ran for another to go with one rushing touchdown as he ran for 108 yards on 82 carries.
Jenkins, who has two years remaining, is 285-for-454 in his career for 3,329 yards with 31 touchdowns, 17 interceptions and a 139.4 quarterback rating to go with 144 yards and two rushing touchdowns on 124 attempts in just 13 career games.
He will be a member of the Landmark Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll this year, and he was on the Centennial Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll after last season.
