American Legion hosts Santa

Catasauqua American Legion Post 215 decided to spread Christmas cheer by holding a meet and greet with the big man himself - Santa Claus. The event was held Dec. 16 at its social hall, 330 Second St.

Commander Mike Rennig was pleased with the turnout from his Post’s loyal volunteers. The event was earmarked for family members of the Legion and the Legion’s Home Association. A number of children and grandchildren attended the event that included snacks and refreshments.

The Christmas spirit was evident as the kids asked Santa mostly for current electronic devices. Jacob Shimkanin asked Santa for an iPhone 15 Pro Max. His grandfather explained to Santa the phone costs more than $1,000 and might not be the right gift for a 7-year-old. Santa noted he still uses a flip phone.

Veterans Steve Rennig and Rich Check, both of Whitehall and formerly from Catasauqua, had a simple request for Santa - peace on Earth.

Mike Rennig said Post 215 had a good year as it reorganized and introduced a number of new events during 2023 such as polka dances, breakfasts, the borough’s Hometown Heroes kickoff and a semiformal gathering to recap the investigation of the paranormal activities at the historic George Taylor House.

Rennig said a Post goal is to increase membership and activities during 2024. Call 610-264-1606 or stop by for membership information or to join.

The Post is open from noon to 7 p.m. Sundays, 3-11 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays, 3 p.m. to midnight Fridays and noon-midnight Saturdays.
