LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Richard E. Williams

Richard E. “Dick” Williams, 83, lifelong resident of New Tripoli, Lynn Township, died Dec. 14, 2023, in the comfort of his home.

He and his wife, Joyce A. (Musselman) Williams, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on June 29.

Born Nov. 3, 1940, in Slatington, he was the youngest of 11 children of the late Thomas and Stella (Kressley) Williams.

Baptized and confirmed at Ebenezer United Church of Christ, New Tripoli, he remained a lifelong member there.

He enjoyed spending most of his life working outdoors, whether it was tending his vegetable and flower gardens, raising farm animals, hunting and fishing or working on different projects around the homestead.

He was a highway worker for 25 years with PennDOT, ensuring the roads were safe.

He received a certificate of recognition after taking a special assignment to help during the devastation from Hurricane Agnes in 1972.

He took great pride in his work, always sharing his memories while traveling around the Lehigh Valley.

After retiring from PennDOT in 1989, he ran for Lynn Township supervisor and was elected to office from 1992-95, where he was able to exercise his knowledge and continue to take care of the roadways.

The township road grader he used during that time, now sits on display in Ontelaunee Park, New Tripoli.

He enjoyed giving back to his community, along with helping his neighbors and welcoming those who were new to the neighborhood.

He was known to have a beer ready for anyone who would stop by for a visit and hang out in his “building” man cave, also a place where his nephews would stay during the hunting season, butchering the deer they had harvested.

Survivors include his loving family, wife Joyce; daughters Susan J. (Lenny) Rothrock of Lyman, S.C. and Sandra A. Eckhart of Bath; grandsons Anthony R. (Felicia) Lesko of Slatington and Richard A. “Richie” Lesko of Lyman; brother William (Eleanor) of Germansville; sister June Oswald of Neffs; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions may be made to Ontelaunee Park Train Restoration Project, in remembrance of his time as a train conductor at the park during the 1960s.
