Lehigh Valley Hospital (LVH) - Cedar Crest has received national recognition for providing safe, high-quality care and is named a Top Teaching Hospital by The Leapfrog Group, a national safety watchdog organization.
The Top Hospital Designation is among the most competitive awards that hospitals can receive in the United States, and each recipient must meet The Leapfrog Group’s strict standards for care defined by the 2023 Top Hospital methodology.
This includes metrics for infection rates, practices for safer surgery, maternity care and the hospital’s capacity to prevent medication errors. Hospitals must also receive an “A” for patient safety from The Leapfrog Group for fall 2023.
“Quality and compassionate care cannot happen without putting safety first,” said Matthew McCambridge, MD, Senior Vice President and Chief Quality, Patient Safety and Acute Care Continuum Officer, LVHN. “Being one of the nation’s Top Teaching Hospitals shows LVH - Cedar Crest is committed to preventing harm. This allows our clinicians to provide the high level of safe care our patients expect and deserve.”
More than 2,100 hospitals were considered for Leapfrog’s Top Hospitals Honors, but only 132 were selected, including eight top children’s hospitals, 34 top general hospitals, 15 top rural hospitals and 75 top teaching hospitals.
“LVH - Cedar Crest has demonstrated that patient safety is their top priority, and we’re truly pleased to recognize them as a Top Hospital this year. Congratulations to hospital staff at all levels who made this national recognition possible,” said Leah Binder, President and CEO, The Leapfrog Group.
Top hospitals were honored Dec. 5 during the 2023 Leapfrog Annual Meeting and Awards Dinner in Washington, D.C.
