Fire protection services agreement approved

A resolution was approved to move forward with the Memorandum of Understanding with Lower Macungie Township and Lower Macungie Fire Department at the Dec. 18 Macungie Borough Council meeting. This is a joint municipal agreement for fire protection services within Macungie Borough.

Lillian Weekes, a borough resident for 20 years, was honored by Mayor Ronald Conrad at the meeting in celebration of her 101st birthday. She has two daughters, four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She received a standing ovation.

The 2024 tax rate was approved as well as the 2024 fee schedule. The tax rate was set at 4.25 mills on each dollar of assessed valuation or the sum of 0.00425 on each $100 of assessed valuation.

Resolution 2023-09 was for the banners across Route 100. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation requires the adoption of a resolution for displaying an overhead sign or banner over a state road.

The Macungie Institute HVAC bid proposal was approved. The contractor will be JBN Mechanical, Inc.

Tim Keller is being considered for the emergency management coordinator position. Keller has experience in this line of work.

There was an executive session for real estate, legal and personnel issues. The meeting dates were established for 2024 with council meeting 7:30 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month, except Jan. 1, 2024, Feb. 19, 2024 and Sept. 3, 2024. Council will meet Tuesdays, Jan. 2, 2024, Feb. 20, 2024 and Sept. 3, 2024.

The next Macungie Borough Council meeting will be Jan. 2, 2024 at the Macungie Institute.
