The Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners met Dec. 7 at the township building for its regularly scheduled meeting.
There was a hearing for the amended official map. Some of the reasons for revising the map are to eliminate future road extensions and show land that may be subject to acquisition. Additional areas are allowed for parks and open space.
Residents in the audience asked about land usage in certain areas. Some residents’ land may be needed for greenway accesses.
The revised map, Ordinance 2023-04, was approved unanimously by a roll-call vote.
Ordinance 2023-05 was approved which involves environmental and historic preservation. It also includes flood hazard area regulations.
Ordinance 2023-06, the 2024 budget, was adopted. Tax rates were also approved. The commissioners approved with the exception of Ron R. Beitler who is not in favor of raising residents’ rates.
Resolution 2023-56 was approved which amends the tapping fees pursuant to Chapter 18.
Resolution 2023-57 was approved for the 2024 Homestead Exemption rate.
Resolution 2023-58 was approved for the Intermunicipal Sewer Agreement with Upper Macungie Township and LCA for the Trexlertown Relief Project.
The problem with a residential complaint over ownership and maintenance of a stormwater basin was brought before the board. There was lack of a motion; therefore, there will be no change in the ownership of the basin. The residents must maintain the basin.
Advertisements for traffic signs such as speed limits and bridge weights and amending the sewer rates was authorized with Beitler opposing the rate increase for sewer usage.
Board President Brian Higgins praised the various volunteers for their part in the Christmas tree lighting. The event was well attended despite the weather.
There was an executive session after the workshop on legal matters.
