PHS criuises past T-Wolves

The Parkland High School wrestling team got off on the right foot during the 2023-24 regular season with an opening match victory and one in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference. The Trojans won the first six bouts on their way to taking care of East Stroudsburg North 57-18 last Tuesday night, December 5, at Parkland.

Parkland earned a lot of points in winning six bouts in a row to begin the match, including three pins, two forfeits and a tech. fall.

Matthew Velez opened the match by winning via forfeit at 107, while Jared Santilli also picked up a victory via forfeit at 127. At 114, Eli Russ pinned Andi Bibeau in 1:20, Jakob Peterson pinned Christopher Modugno in 1:58 at 133 and Leo Kern pinned Micah Alicea in 1:55 at the 139-pound weight class. Blake Dergham won by technical fall, 15-0 in 2:33 at 121 and the Trojans found themselves ahead 35-0 just like that.

After the Timeberwolves received their first points of the match on an injury default at 145, Christopher Toth and Xander DeSelm won via major decision and forfeit at 152 and 160, respectively, to push the advantage to 45-6. Julius Reyes and Matthew Wakefield both earned pins at 189 and 215, respectively, to round out the Parkland victories.

Parkland competed in its first road match of the regular season this past Wednesday, in a big one, at Easton. Both teams were 1-0 on the year.
