The Emmaus High School boys basketball team continued its successful start to the 2023-24 regular season last week, winning both of its opening games in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference.
After winning the Wilkes-Barre tournament on Dec. 2, the Green Hornets took both of their conference games over Northampton and Nazareth last Wednesday and Friday night, respectively, . The week ended with their first loss of the season, falling to Abington Heights in a nonconference game in the home opener on Saturday afternoon.
Emmaus (4-1 overall; 2-9 EPC) had a strong first half in the 58-35 win over the Kids (2-1), outscoring them 34-13, and never looked back. Jametric Harris finished with a game-high 20 points to lead a trio in double figures in scoring, including 15 points from Will Barber and 10 from Jacques Curley-Katrishen.
The Green Hornets had another fast start in their 68-39 victory over the Blue Eagles (1-2), outscoring them 19-3 in the first quarter and 32-10 over the course of the first half. Barber finished with a game-high 20 points and added eight rebounds. Harris tallied 13 points and both Teague McCourt and Jack Csensits had seven points.
Emmaus fell 63-58 Saturday to the Comets. The Hornets were down by one after the first quarter and four at halftime, but rallied in the third quarter and found themselves behind by just one late in the fourth.
Abington Heights was helped by 10 three-pointers to win the game. Barber had a game-high 16 points, Harris tallied 12 and Rafael Terrero also finished in double figures with 11.
