Five Dogs Art is a family business, with parents Tim and Lydia and their adult child Jamie all contributing. “Almost everything in the booth, except for the drumsticks and the ukuleles, is handmade from recycled, repurposed or otherwise discarded scrap wood.” Lydia said. “We burned our very first piece in 2016. It was a simple scrap of plywood, but it was enough to light the spark (ha-ha) to keep experimenting. In 2017 I we set up a table at the Hellertown Farmers' Market and sold our first piece.” Five Dogs Art came to Christkindlmarkt in 2019. Lydia added, “I often attended Christkindlmarkt, both as a teen and when I attended Moravian College. It always seemed a magical space for people to gather and share in the holiday spirit.” About Christkindlmarkt, Lydia said, “The handmade artisans are my favorite. I always find something original and amazing ... I never get tired of strolling around. I love that it is a local show for us. We live nine minutes away and this is the closest show we do. We see our neighbors, our colleagues, our friends and new friends that we have made over the years. The atmosphere is magical, with the lights and music.” You can visit fivedogsart.com. In addition, they can be found at “shows as far north as Connecticut and as far south as Maryland. One of our favorite places to exhibit is at The Mix Frenchtown, right across the river in beautiful Frenchtown NJ, about a 35-minute drive from Bethlehem.” The full show schedule is on the website.
Groundhog Blues Pottery is owned and operated by Helen and Al Weichman. Helen said, “we handmake our stoneware pottery in our Pocono Mountain studio, as we have for the last 50 years. Working together, we throw each pot on the potters wheel, trim, carve, sculpt, glaze and fire each piece in one of our three large kilns. We make our own original glazes, too. We work side by side making each original idea come to life. Groundhog Blues hit the half century mark this year. Helen said, “We opened the pottery studio in 1973 as soon as Al got out of the Army.” This is their third year at Christkindlmarkt. What do they love about Christkindlmarkt? Helen said, “The customers, the atmosphere, and the spirit of Christmas. Everyone is so happy to be there and very friendly.” Their website is groundhogblues.com you can see their products and find their show schedule.
