Cheri L. Andrews

Cheri “Mammy” Andrews, 77, of Orefield, died peacefully on Dec. 5, 2023, surrounded by her loved ones.

Born Sept. 30, 1946, in Omaha, Neb., she was a daughter of the late Earl Gifford and Fern Helen (Moorehead) Watters.

Affectionately known as “Mammy,” she was a loving mother of four and a devoted grandmother to nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She took immense pride in witnessing the growth and accomplishments of her family.

Having a nurturing and caring nature led her to pursue a career in nursing.

She attended Omaha Public School of Practical Nursing after graduating from Westside High School in 1964 where she gained the knowledge and skills to provide compassionate care to those in need.

Her 28-year nursing career included time spent at Bergan Mercy Hospital, Lehigh Valley Hospital, Urological Associates of Allentown, and multiple home health care companies.

She was so proud to be granted Physician Extendor privileges at LVH in the Urology Department in 1986.

She was the fundraising committee chairwoman for the National Association for Professional Saleswomen, served as Allentown/LV Chamber of Commerce Member Ambassadors Club chairwoman where she was nominated for the Athena Award, and served on the Executive Women’s Counsel 1988-90.

Her passion to care for others continued after she hung up her nursing uniform in 1994 to become a caregiver for her grandchildren and her late husband, which was by far her favorite job of all.

She was on the board of directors for Westwood Heights Swim Club, past president of Parkland High School Swim Team Booster Club, founded and coached the synchronized swimming program at KBGH Swim Club, and was a PIAA swimming and diving official.

She found solace and joy in her hobbies which included competitive swimming, synchronized swimming, gardening, crocheting, sewing, turning homes into Hallmark Christmas movie settings, and attending all of her kids’ and grandkids’ sporting events.

When she wasn’t on the sidelines at a sporting event, concert or musical, she was enjoying one of her favorite shows while indulging in a “stiff” drink (Sprite) and her favorite treat, Josh Early nonpareils.

She became an avid Phillies fan with Pop and proudly wore Eagles gear on Sundays.

Survivors include her loving children John (Anne) Andrews of Falcon N.C., Joy (Joseph) Augustus of Schnecksville, Mark Andrews of Orefield and Kim (Jamie) Alackness of Littleton, Colo.; her adoring grandchildren Joey (Veronica) Augustus, of Prospect Park, Jaclyn Augustus of Nashville Tenn., Jordyn Augustus of Allentown, Jake (Taylor) Augustus, of Blandon, Jason Augustus of Vero Beach Fla., Justin Augustus of Schnecksville, Bryce and McKenna Alackness of Littleton, Elizabeth Andrews of Falcon; and great-grandson Chase Augustus, of Prospect Park.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 50 years, Ronald “Pop” Andrews, with whom, along with her parents, have now been reunited in eternal peace.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Luke’s Hospice in her memory.

She will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her but we know her light and love will live on through the legacy and lives of those she touched.

May she rest in eternal peace.
