LHS, FHS find success
While Bethlehem Catholic may have been at the Ironman tournament last weekend, Liberty and Freedom were getting valuable reps under their belts at respective individual tournaments as well.
The Hurricanes competed at the Penn Manor tournament and placed 12th overall in the teams standings with over 30 teams competing.
Seth Kolb (HWT) came away with the highest finish, as he took home third place, while Jasiah Pagan (114) and Kam Abboud (139) each took fifth.
Head coach Brandon Hall enjoyed having his wrestlers go up against teams from out of the area such as District 3, Maryland and Delaware and felt the weekend was a positive experience for the team as a whole.
“The team camaraderie was solid,” said Hall. “Not often do varsity and junior varsity get to compete in individual tournaments at the same venue. This event creates opportunities for growth in that area. Seth Kolb’s effort was consistent throughout the weekend and the results show that. Kam also wrestled well but didn’t finish where he expected to. He is a bright young man who knows what areas he needs to improve in. The same can be said for Jasiah. He got caught in the second period, giving up five points in his consi-semifinals match. He battled back but came up short.”
Freedom was at Delaware Valley High School last week for the seven team Battle on the Delaware tournament and came away with four champions and seven finalists.
Joey Bodnar (152), Noah MacIlroy (172), Jared Karabinus (189) and Daniel Schiffert (HWT) all came away with titles that helped Freedom finish third at the event.
John Bodnar (121), Nicholas Lyden (127) and Anthony Crisafulli (133) were all runners-up, while Keenan Ray (145) took third and Elliot Black (215) finished fourth.
Fifth place finishers included Aamire Gaskins (133) and Alex Salim (139). Aaron Pizarro (160) took sixth.
Both teams have dual meets this Wednesday with Liberty taking on Bethlehem Catholic and Freedom battling Nazareth.
