Board, committees reorganize for new year

Northampton County Common Pleas Court Judge Jennifer Sletvold swore in a new administrator and returning members during the school board’s reorganization meeting Dec. 4. M. Rayah Levy and re-elected incumbents Emily Schenkel, Karen Beck-Pooley, Kim Shively and Michael Recchiuti repeated their oaths of office, while longtime President Michael Facccietto retained his position. Shannon Patrick remains vice president.

The Facilities Committee then revealed the update for the proposed Fountain Hill ES, which will measure 85,675 square feet, with four classrooms per grade. Construction is anticipated to take two years at a projected cost of $62 million.

Leeson also updated the board regarding the feedback she received after the first marking period’s new grading system. Parents appear to appreciate the detailed comprehensive evaluation of their children, instead of the traditional alpha numerical grading system.

The BASD regular board meeting will be held Dec. 18 at 7 p.m. at East Hills MS.
