SHS names student of the week

Q. In what grade are you currently enrolled?

A. I am in 12th grade at Salisbury High School.

Q. Who is in your family? Please provide the first names of your family members: parents, siblings and pets.

A. My dad David Sterner, my mom Theresa Sterner, my sister Elizabeth Sterner, my brothers Gabriel Sterner, Aaron Sterner and Zachary Sterner. I have two German shepherds – Bandit and Lena, three cats – Ficus, Clover and Sparky and a Russian Tortoise named Scout.

Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?

A. My favorite subject is my technical school’s electromechanical technology because I enjoy learning and working with circuits and sometimes even code.

Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A. I received first place in the states competition for the SkillsUSA PA Mechatronics Competition two years ago, third last year and am planning on going again this year. Two years ago I also placed fifth nationally at the SkillsUSA National Mechatronics Competition. These were both two person competitions done with a partner. I am also a member of National Honor Society and National Technical Honor Society.

Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities?

A. I have done rifle for each of my high school years. I also did literary club, chess club and Envirothon.

Q. What is your next goal after high school?

A. My next goal after high school is to get a degree in electrical/mechanical engineering in college (whichever one I decide I enjoy more).

Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?

A. My biggest challenge to date is my procrastination as it has led me to doing many of my assignments last minute.

Q. For what would you like to be remembered?

A. I would like to be remembered positively in any way I can. Mostly as either funny or helpful though (being able to make people happier).

Q. Whom do you admire? Why?

A. I admire my sister because she manages her schedule and assignments way better than me and she is going to college so she is pretty much doing the next step I am looking to do. She also gets really high grades.

Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?

A. My advice is the Internet can be just as good of a learning tool as school can be. As long as you push yourself to learn you can use almost any resources to teach yourself new skills and knowledge.
