An Allentown man was fatally injured in a two-vehicle crash in Lower Macungie Township early Nov. 19, according to news releases from the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office and Forensic Center and Pennsylvania State Police Fogelsville.
Eric J. Cressman, 60, as identified by the coroner’s office, was pronounced dead at the crash scene at the intersection of Brookside Road and Lower Macungie Road shortly after 8 a.m., according to authorities.
Investigators determined the cause of death to be multiple blunt force injuries due to a collision. The manner of death was found to be an accident, according to the news release from the coroner’s office dated Nov. 19.
Cressman was the driver of a vehicle that was in a collision with another vehicle, according to the news release.
Pennsylvania State Police Fogelsville detailed the crash as follows:
At approximately 7:24 a.m. a crossover sport utility vehicle was traveling southbound on Brookside Road, nearing the intersection with Lower Macungie Road, while a vehicle traveling westbound on Lower Macungie Road also was nearing the intersection.
The westbound vehicle failed to stop for a steady red signal at the intersection and the two vehicles entered the intersection at the same time, the southbound vehicle entering the intersection on a steady green signal. The crash spun the southbound vehicle around and it stopped facing north. The westbound vehicle struck and went over a cement curb and hit a wooden post.
“The operator and sole occupant of Unit 1 sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash,” according to the news release from Pennsylvania State Police Fogelsville.
