Santa gets season started in N. Catty

Residents of all ages gathered at North Catasauqua William J. Albert Memorial Park, 701 Grove St., to commence the borough’s annual tree lighting.

The event was forced to use its rain date, but that did not prevent a large crowd from stopping by on the windy and chilly evening of Nov. 27. The group listened to a short address from Mayor William J. Molchany Jr. and Father Gruber from St. John Fisher Catholic Church before being serenaded with carols from the Catasauqua Community Choir.

After a few cheerful songs had been sung, Santa and Mrs. Claus arrived with the North Catasauqua Fire Department to flip the holiday switch and light up the borough’s outdoor Christmas tree. The crowd grew louder as Santa made his way over to the tree, and together, everyone counted down before the tree was illuminated.

Santa and Mrs. Claus settled in at the borough snack stand while a large line formed under the pavilion for all to meet the jolly pair and pose for a photo. The borough also provided goody bags to all in line.

The event offered cookies and hot chocolate for sale and the Catasauqua Community Bell Choir played festive music for all to enjoy. The borough continued to spread the cheer by setting up food donation boxes, while members of the U.S. Marine Corps stood by for Toys For Tots donations.

The North Catasauqua Police Department will be accepting donations for Toys For Tots until Dec. 17. The donation box can be found in the borough building, 1066 Fourth St., and can be accessed during normal business hours.

Despite the chilly weather, the atmosphere felt cozy from the holiday decorations, laughter and warm treats.
