It’s December; time to review all the exciting events that have happened over the past month at Freedom HS.

The Freedom Patriots played Bethlehem Central Catholic at the BASD stadium Saturday, Oct. 7, where Freedom delivered a crushing defeat to Becahi, 12-0.

There was also no school Monday, Oct. 9, due to Columbus and Indigenous Peoples Day.

A survey was issued to all Freedom students to vote on the themes for this year’s Spirit Week, with classics such as No Backpack Day and Groutfit Day being included, alongside new additions such as Barbie vs. Oppenheimer. Voting lasted until Thursday, Oct. 12.

PSAT testing was held Saturday, Oct. 14, for students who registered beforehand in late September. The PSAT is meant as practice for the SAT test taken later in the year.

The Freedom chapter of the National Honors Society held its induction ceremony Tuesday, Oct. 17, and welcomed 116 new members as they signed their names into the book of inductees. Freedom Principal Laurie Sage was also in attendance to congratulate the new members.

Spirit Week began Monday, Oct. 23, and went until Friday, Oct. 27, with themes ranging from Pajama Day to Groutfit and Anything but a Backpack Day, Twin Day and Soccer Moms & BBQ Dads. Friday’s theme was Battle of the Classes, with seniors wearing black, juniors wearing pink, sophomores white and freshmen gold.

Freedom held its first bonfire since 2021 to celebrate the Freedom-Liberty game. Construction began Monday, Oct, 23, with the bonfire lasting from 6:30-8:30 a.m.

A pep rally was held Friday, Oct. 27, to celebrate the Freedom-Liberty game, with all grades participating in games such as stretcher races, musical chairs and more. Hallway decorations were also judged during the pep rally, with the sophomores being declared the winners. It was during the pep rally that Freedom unveiled its brand-new mascot that would make its debut to the public during the Freedom-Liberty game.

The annual football game between the Freedom Patriots and Liberty Hurricanes kicked off Saturday, Oct. 28 with the Patriots beating the Hurricanes 41-14, leaving Coach Jason Roeder a very happy man.

The Freedom Patriot Band also had a part to play during the game’s halftime show, as it played a selection of music ranging from “In the Hall of the Mountain King,” to “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” and “Goosebumps.”

Picture retakes were held Wednesday, Nov. 1 for students who required their pictures to be retaken.

The Freedom Patriot Band took part in the annual Halloween Parade, postponed due to bad weather to Sunday, Nov. 5.

The Class of 2026 held a pierogi fundraiser Monday Nov. 6, to Monday, Nov. 20. Orders placed during this time are to be delivered Monday, Dec, 11 at Wiz Kidz from 5 to 7 p.m.

School was closed Tuesday, Nov. 7, due to Election Day, with a three-hour delay in effect Wednesday, Nov. 8.

There was also no school from Wednesday, Nov. 22 to Tuesday, Nov. 28 due to Thanksgiving break.
