Roughies Report: Congrats to cross-country athletes

Congratulations to Catasauqua High School seniors Alivia Bear, who finished eighth (21:40.07), and Ava Smith, who finished 11th (21:58.45), in the girls race at the 2023-24 District XI 1A cross-country championship meet held Oct. 25 at DeSales University.

Bear earned a medal for finishing in the top 10, and both she and Smith qualified for the PIAA state cross-country championship meet Nov. 4 in Hershey, where Bear finished 47th and Smith finished 97th out of 267 runners.

Also, congrats to sophomore Evan Reed, who finished 29th (20:13.03), and senior William Aguirre, who finished 43rd (20:45.38), in the boys race.

Catasauqua Area School District and Lehigh Career and Technical Institute will be closed for Thanksgiving break Nov. 23-27.

Tickets for the 100th Thanksgiving Day football game, starting 10 a.m. Nov. 23, between Catasauqua and Northampton Area high schools can be purchased at Alumni Field, 851 Pine St., Catasauqua, the day of the game. All tickets sold at the game will be $7 and are general admission.

CHS’ Varsity C Club is having a dine and donate fundraiser Nov. 28 at Catty Corner Neighborhood Pub & Pie, 301 Mulberry St., Catasauqua. If you show the flier, found at cattysd.org, or mention the ad to your server, 10% of the sale of dine-in and carryout will be donated back to the club.
