North Catasauqua: Good luck to Rough Riders

Cheer on the Catasauqua High School football team at this year’s 100th Turkey Day football game Nov. 23 against Northampton Area High School. The game will be held at Catasauqua’s Alumni Field on Pine Street with a 10 a.m. kickoff.

The day before, Nov. 22, is the annual Turkey Day game bonfire, planned for 6:30 p.m. Nov. 22 at Sheckler Elementary School, 251 N. 14th St.

Mrs. Nothstein’s Helping Hands Fund will not be holding its homemade holiday craft and food sale this year. The group asks residents to support Historic Catasauqua Preservation Association’s holiday shop this November and December, as many crafters who have participated in the homemade holiday craft sale event will have their items available for sale.

Historic Catasauqua Preservation Association is hosting the Biery House holiday shoppe in the historic site, 8 Race St. The shoppe will be open weekends Nov. 25-Dec. 17.

Hours are 4-8 p.m. Fridays, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturdays and noon-4 p.m. Sundays. Items will be on display in the mule barn, summer kitchen and six rooms in the Biery House, all beautifully decorated in a Victorian theme.

Parking is located off Union Street in the Deily Coal Yard. From Race Street, turn onto Front Street and left on Union Street. From Pine Street, turn right on Front Street and right on Union Street.

HCPA is also looking for donations of baked goods. Email historiccatasauqua@gmail.com if you would like to contribute items for the bake sale.

The annual North Catasauqua small Town USA tree lighting will be held 6 p.m. Nov. 26 at North Catasauqua William J. Albert Memorial Park, 701 Grove St.

Have your pictures taken with Santa and Mrs. Claus. The Catasauqua High School band will play holiday music, and the Catasauqua Community Choir will sing carols. A bell choir will play festive holiday music during the closing part of the evening. Father Gruber, from St. John Fisher Catholic Church, will say a few words.

There will be light refreshments, including cookies and hot cocoa. Visitors are encouraged to bring a canned good or nonperishable food item for the local food bank.

A member of the North Catasauqua Police Department will be at the event to collect unwrapped toys for Toys for Tots and new or gently used coats for the police department coat drive.

St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 122 Union St., Catasauqua, will hold its Christmas cash bingo Dec. 3. The kitchen and doors open 11:30 a.m., and bingo begins 1 p.m.

Kitchen volunteers will be selling snacks, bingo favorites, soda, water and iced tea. Other than BYOB, no outside food or beverages are permitted.

There will be 15 games, six specials and a jackpot round. Seating is first come, first served. Additional game sheets and specials will be available for purchase. Bring your daubers, but no hard boards.

The North Catasauqua Fire Department’s Secret Santa returns again this holiday season. The fire department will escort Santa around town as he delivers gifts Dec. 17. Visits start 10 a.m.

Santa will remain outside while visiting.

Registration forms and gifts may be dropped off 6-9 p.m. Dec. 6, 8 and 13 and from 8 a.m. to noon Dec. 9 at the Catasauqua fire station, 90 Bridge St. Gifts may also be dropped off during regular business hours at borough hall.

Have each gift securely wrapped and labeled with the recipient’s name and address.

If you are not home Dec. 17, your gift will be held at the fire department for you to pick up. Contact the fire department to make arrangements.

The North Catasauqua Police Department will be holding its annual winter coat drive.

As the weather turns colder, many in our community are in need of warm coats to stay safe and comfortable. The police department is collecting gently used and new coats of all sizes to donate to those in need. Help the department make a difference and spread warmth this winter.

Donations can be dropped off during regular business hours at the police department, 1066 Fourth St. The point of contact for this community outreach initiative is Patrolman Hazim, who can be reached at nhazim@ncatapd.org or 610-437-5252.

Members of North Catasauqua Police Association will once again team up with the Marine Corps Reserve to collect and distribute as many toys as possible for children who are less fortunate. The Toys for Tots donation box has been placed in the lobby of borough hall.

The donation box is easily accessible during normal business hours. After hours, you may contact a member of the police department by calling the Lehigh County Communications Center nonemergency phone number at 610-437-5252 and you will be met by a police officer, who will assist you.

Consider donating a new, unopened and unwrapped toy to support this significant and heartfelt cause. The donated toys will be picked up Dec. 17 from borough hall by the members of the Marine Corps Reserve.

Catasauqua Community Food Bank, 527 Front St., is always looking for donations, especially with the holidays approaching. Items that are especially in need include jelly/jam, shelf-stable milk, canned soup, rice/noodle side dishes and canned fruits and vegetables.
