Lois J. Althouse

Lois J. Althouse, 89, formerly of Emmaus, died peacefully Nov. 10, 2023, in Cedarbrook Fountain Hill. She was the wife of the late Henry A. Rooney, Walter H. Althouse and companion of the late Anthony Timar. Born in Pittsfield, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Warren and Esther (Geiger) Neimeyer.

She was a 1952 graduate of Emmaus High School.

She worked as a waitress and hostess and later was a deli clerk at Gabby’s Market, Emmaus, for 20 years, retiring in 1994.

She was proud of her family and loved celebrating the annual Geiger reunion. She enjoyed making soups, cookies and chocolate cake with peanut butter icing. She enjoyed playing the card game canasta with her high school girlfriends for over 60 years. Above all, she loved people, especially her family. She loved traveling, especially to the seashore with family and bus trips with her sister Dolores.

She is survived by children, Joanne and her husband, Richard Kunkle, of Coopersburg, Dale Rooney, of Anchorage, Alaska, Carol and her husband, Anthony Cipollone, of Swan Point, Md., Barbara and her husband, Paul Eifler, of St. Petersburg, Fla., Teresa and her husband, Shezad Morani, of Centerport, N.Y., Mark Jackson and his wife, Sue, of Widnes, England; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; brother, Roger Flexer, of Anna, Texas; stepdaughters, Dana Sharkey, Cheryl Weidner. She was predeceased by brothers, Ernest “Bud” Neimeyer, Leon Neimeyer, Ronald Neimeyer; sisters, Myrtle Rose, Dolores Simmons, Janice Valasquez.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Dec. 9 in the Schantz Funeral Home, P.C., 250 Main St., Emmaus. Visitation is 10 to 11 a.m. in the funeral home.
