Hymn Festival marks Lehigh Valley Organ Guild anniversary

The Lehigh Valley Chapter of the American Guild of Organists concludes its 100th anniversary celebration with a Hymn Festival and banquet.

The Hymn Festival, “Sing Glory to the Name of God,” will be held at 4 p.m. Nov. 12, St. John’s Lutheran, 37 S. Fifth St., Allentown. The banquet will be held at the Americus Hotel, Sixth and Hamilton streets, Allentown.

To mark the occasion, the chapter commissioned an organ piece on the hymn, “O God Our Help in Ages Past,” which will be performed by Tom Trenney. The composer of the commissioned work, Michael Bedford, is expected to be in attendance.

Wayne L. Wold, Regional Councillor, Mid-Atlantic Region of the American Guild of Organists, is also expected to attend.

The Hymn Festival is free and open to the public. Parking is available on street for free on Sundays in addition to the church’s lot.

Singers are invited to be part of the choir, which will rehearse at 2 p.m. Nov. 12. Singers are asked to register at: lvago.org.
