Allentown Band “Celebration” premieres Whitehall native’s work

The 195th anniversary year celebration of the Allentown Band continues.

A concert of works written for the Allentown Band was held Oct. 29 at Christ Lutheran Church, Allentown.

The concert program performed by the Allentown Band, with Ronald Demkee, conductor, included the world premiere of “Celebration” by Whitehall Township native Gregory Fritze, commissioned for the 195th anniversary.

The concert included five other works written to commemorate previous anniversaries of the Allentown Band.

Robin Flores and John Flamisch made a donation to support the concert.

An Oktoberfest-themed buffet, which included a cake inscribed with “195th anniversary” icing, was held in the church reception hall after the concert.

The Allentown Band concert schedule includes: “Salute the Troops,” 3 p.m. Nov. 12, Northeast Middle School, Bethlehem; “Americans We Tribute To Veterans Holiday Concert,” with The Singing Sergeants, 3 p.m. Nov. 19, Miller Symphony Hall, and Annual Dinner Concert, 7 p.m. Nov. 21, Delta Hotels by Marriott Allentown Lehigh Valley, Breinigsville.
