St. John’s celebrates pastor

At St. John’s Lutheran Church, 18 S. Third St., Coplay, congregation members gathered for a luncheon Oct. 22 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the ordination into ministry of their pastor, Timothy Boyer.

Boyer became St. John’s pastor in 1997.

Members spoke, expressing accolades for Boyer’s dedicated work serving them for 26 years. A number of members shed tears as they thanked him. Boyer plans to retire from the ministry in February 2024.

All were treated to lunch and a beautiful cake after the program.

Numerous yellow flower centerpieces adorned the tables in the church social hall. The color yellow’s message is joy, happiness and positive feelings.

The congregants gave Boyer a card and a gift thanking him and celebrating his years of service. After opening the gift, Boyer became emotional and thanked his congregation for their years of support and kindness.

On hand at the luncheon were Monsignor David James, the vicar general of the Allentown Diocese and current pastor of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Coplay, and Tayo Akomolede, pastor of Redeemed Christian Church of God, Coplay.

Both James and Akomolede applauded Boyer’s dedicated service to the Christian faith, his exemplary service to his congregation and his outreach to the other churches in Coplay.

Boyer’s wife, Cathy, and their children, Jeremy and Vickie, were also present. At times, they also teared up from the outpouring of good will.

It was a fun, emotional experience to honor a special person in the lives of these churchgoers.
