During the Nov. 5 Macungie Borough Council meeting, a discussion was held over the situation with the Macungie Fire Department.
Macungie Fire Chief Mike Natysyn appeared with the fire department’s Attorney Craig Neely. Several Macungie firefighters as well as former fire chiefs also attended the meeting.
Neely described Natysyn as being hardworking and caring for the community. It was also said problems with the fire department have been going on for many years – from financial issues to organizational problems.
A resident spoke about some problems with the fire department from falsifying rosters to having a noncertified fire truck.
Council is considering this situation and recently learned more about Lower Macungie’s fire department.
In other meeting news, Macungie’s preliminary budget was approved for advertising. The vote on the final budget will be Nov. 20.
The Macungie Holiday committee requested its annual budgeted donation of $1,500 which was approved.
An executive session was held for real estate, legal and personnel issues.
