Grace Lutheran Church, 28 W. Main St., Macungie, will host a free community meal 4-5:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall at the church. Takeout meals will be available. The meal includes chicken and stuffing casserole, roll and butter, cranberry sauce and dessert.
Salisbury Elementary School will host a Veterans Day celebration at the school, 1400 Gaskill St., Allentown. Highlights include a morning walkway greeting for which veterans line the sidewalks at the school.
Nov. 11
Old Zionsville United Church of Christ, 5981 Fountain Road, Old Zionsville, will hold its 26th annual Bazaar & Filled Basket Auction 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Come browse through the crafters and vendors, check out the auction baskets and buy tickets for a chance to win your favorite baskets. Also check out the bake sale. Light refreshments will be for sale for takeout.
The Allentown Music Club will present an All-American program featuring classical, jazz, folk and patriotic music 2 p.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church, 1533 Springhouse Road, Allentown. Performers include Karen El-Chaar, flute; Rachel Holton, oboe; Jonathan Beitler, piano; Sherman Cox, clarinet; Monika Short, soprano; John Lucas, drums; Rich Gonya, bass guitar; John Hayward, keyboard and Joseph Lynn, voice and guitar. Admission is free and the event is sponsored by the National Federation of Music Clubs.
A fall vendor and craft fair will be held 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Macungie Memorial Park, 50 N. Poplar St., Macungie.
Nov. 14
Two free self-defense workshops will be offered at the Macungie Institute, 510 E. Main St., Macungie. A workshop for seniors will be held 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and an adult class will be held 7-8:30 p.m. Vic Lauer will lead both sessions. RSVP at vrlauer@yahoo.com.
Nov. 15
The Emmaus Historical Society will be hold its monthly program 7 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church Parish Hall, 501 Chestnut St. Presented by Director of Native American Heritage Programs Carla J.S. Messinger, this program will be an in-depth look at the cordial relations of the Lenape, Quaker and Moravians during the early settlement of Pennsylvania and at the later conflicts arising with other European cultures. Once respected “Grandfather” who counseled for peace and arbitrated among the Native Nation, the Lenape were forced to negotiate desperately in a bid to maintain their values and relationship to their part of “Turtle Island.” Programs are free to the public. Refreshments and snacks are served after the program.

Lehigh County will host a household hazardous waste collection and recycling event 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Coca-Cola Park, 1050 IronPigs Way, Allentown. The event is for county residents only. No commercial items will be accepted from commercial entities. No 55-gallon drums will be accepted. Nov. 23
The 95th annual Thanksgiving Sheeprock Trek and Sunrise service will start with a hike 5:45 a.m. from the Macungie Volunteer Fire Department, 31 S. Walnut St., Macungie. State Rep. Ryan Mackenzie, R-187th, will give the Thanksgiving message. The free event is sponsored by Macungie Boy Scout Troop 71. All are welcome. Free parking available. Participants are asked to use only the designated hiking trail which begins at the fire department for access to and from Sheeprock. The Hivel Und Dahl Preservation Society will holds its quarterly meeting and free program 7 p.m. at the Upper Milford Township building, 5671 Chestnut St., Zionsville. The program is titled “Harvest Home Celebration – The Original Pennsylvania German Thanksgiving.” From long before President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed the last Thursday of November as a national day of Thanksgiving in 1863, PA Germans throughout southeastern Pennsylvania had expressed their gratitude to God for another year of harvests to sustain their families and communities. The service was a highlight of the fall season in PA German communities. Bob Gerhart will present the program.
Nov. 30
The Carbon Model Railroad Society will hold a holiday open house, 529 Ore St., Bowmanstown. Also Dec. 7, and Jan. 4, 2024. Open house hours are 7 to 9 p.m. The society also is open 1 to 4 p.m. Nov. 25 and 26, Dec. 2 and 3, 9 and 10, and Jan. 6 and 7, 2024. The main HO scale display is in various stages of completion and is an excellent learning tool. The clubs HO and N displays will also be in operation and there will be a model railroad – yard sale with new and pre-owned trains and accessories. Admission is free; donations are welcome. The Emmaus Public Library Friends’ Holiday Book Sale will be held 6 to 8 p.m. at the library, 11 E. Main St. Items available for purchase will include holiday craft and cookbooks, puzzles, two-sided art bookmarks, music CDs and movie DVDs, recent fiction and nonfiction books and holiday books for all ages. Light refreshments will be available to go. Purchases will be by check or cash only.
Dec. 2
The Friends of the 1803 House will host an “Old Fashioned Christmas” at the 1803 House 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., 55 S. Keystone Ave., Emmaus. Visitors will experience was what Christmas was like in 1803 including a fire lit in an open-hearth, holiday treats and a Christmas tree dressed in period decorations. Macungie Ministrelaires will perform Christmas songs from noon to 2 p.m. Other highlights include windowsills decorated by members of the Emmaus Garden Club, a display of scale Emmaus historic building models by Andre Fatula, a decorated wreath sale, a raffle, a children’s craft and house tours. The Emmaus Historical Society, the Knauss Homestead and the Shelter House also will be open.

A free holiday luncheon for Macungie borough residents 70 years and older will be held at the Macungie Institute, 510 E. Main St. Seating is limited and reservations must be made by Nov. 3. Call 610-966-7830 to RSVP.
