At the Oct. 10 meeting, Allen Township Board of Supervisors heard Engineer Stan Wojciechowski’s plan to curb truck traffic on East Bullshead Road.
Trucks turning onto East Bullshead have reportedly been an ongoing issue in the township despite many warning signs. This prompted the supervisors to search for alternate solutions.
Wojciechowski presented a sketch that shows a median treatment at the entrance of East Bullshead Road at Willowbrook Road. The vertical face median is shown to be 8 inches on the plan but could easily be 12 inches.
Flexible delineators would be added around the island to both make people feel like they are unable to make the turn and to clearly show public works the median’s location.
With a slight widening of the road, the township’s newest firetruck would be able to make the turn, but tractor-trailers and tandem trucks wouldn’t. A “no trucks” sign could also be added to the middle of the median as an extra precaution.
The entire project is estimated to cost around $50,000, said Wojciechowski.
Supervisor Gary Behler felt it is important to get feedback from East Bullshead Road property owners. Other than that, supervisors seemed to be in favor of the median.
In other business, the 2024 preliminary budget is available on the township website for residents to examine. The millage rate will remain at its current 5 mills. It is set to be voted on at the Nov. 14 meeting.
Supervisors next meet 6 p.m. Nov. 14 at the fire department building, 3530 Howertown Road.
