Three members of the Parkland girls cross country team qualified to run in the state championship meet.
Parkland’s Lana Hurwtiz, Harshita Rajeshkumar and Lucy Tobia will all compete in Saturday’s PIAA Class 3A Championships in Hershey after putting in state-qualifying performances at last week’s District 11 Championships at DeSales University.
“All of them ran well,” said Parkland head coach Stephen Ott of his seven-runner district team. “Emmaus and Easton are very strong. We knew we had to run our best race to be able to beat them. Unfortunately we’re still a little behind them, but not far. We’re right there. I’m just so proud of the way that they ran. It would have taken a big effort and we put that effort in and we weren’t far.”
Parkland finished third in the team standings with 89 points. Emmaus (43) edged Easton (46) for this year’s title. Both of those teams will send their entire district line up to the state meet.
The Trojans were led by senior Lana Hurwitz at districts. The 2022 district champ took fifth place last week. Rajeshkumar, a junior, placed eighth overall to earn a medal, which go to the top 10 individual finishers. Tobia, junior, finished 19th at districts.
The top 10 runners who are not part of state-qualifying teams advance to the state meet.
Parkland sophomore Juliana Varano (34th) and freshman Madelyn Kruk (37th) rounded out the scoring for the Trojans. Sophomore Marley Boyle (38th) and senior Gracie Trexler (42nd) were also part of the Trojans’ district team.
