The Emmaus football team had a four-game win streak snapped last Friday night by a team that’s on a streak of its own.
Freedom has now won four straight games, including last week’s 25-19 victory over Emmaus.
The Hornets grabbed the early lead when Reilly Bechtel broke free for a 37-yard touchdown run in the second quarter to make it 6-0. A 33-yard Will Buck field goal later in the quarter pushed the lead to 9-0.
Freedom answered with three straight scores as the Patriots scored a touchdown before halftime and another two in the third quarter to go ahead 19-9.
Another Will Buck field goal, this one from 34 yards out, and another Bechtel touchdown run, this one from two-yards out, tied the game in the fourth quarter.
Freedom found one more touchdown late in the fourth quarter to extend its winning streak.
Bechtel led the Hornet running game with 93 yards on nine carries. Quarterback Josiah Williams ran for 63 yards on 12 carries while completing 11 of 28 passes for 135 yards. Daniel Duggan caught five passes for 73 yards in the game.
Mario Landino led the Emmaus defense with 8 solo tackles and two tackles for loss, while Robert Edwards has six solo tackles.
The Hornets (5-4) dropped to fifth in the District 2/4/11 Class 6A rankings with the loss. They are just behind Freedom (5-4) and ahead of Wilkes-Barre (5-4) with one game remaining. They have clinched a place in the district playoffs and likely need a win in the season finale to move up to fourth place and secure a first-round home game.
Emmaus finishes the season at Parkland Friday night. The Trojans are the only unbeaten team in the East Penn Conference. They are led by quarterback Luke Spang and running back Trey Tremba.
