Jusinski heading to states

Much to her surprise, Northampton harrier Liv Jusinski clinched the 10th and final medal that was awarded at the District XI Class 3A Cross Country Championships on Oct. 25 at DeSales University.

“I didn’t know until they announced my name,” Jusinski said.

Northampton coach Dan Benner also had no idea that Jusinski captured a district medal until it was announced at the awards ceremony after the race.

“I didn’t realize, so I’m happily surprised. We were feeling she could make a late-run push,” Coach Benner said. “I never see the true finish because I stand about a half mile from the finish to motivate the kids from there, so when I saw her with a half mile to go, she had started to make her move. People said she finished strong. She worked hard this year. It’s nice to see the kids who put the time in get rewarded at the end of the season.”

Jusinski’s time was 21:01.98, passing Southern Lehigh’s Lauren Miller as they approached the finish line.

“I’ve always thought I was strongest in the third mile. That’s going through cornfields. There’s a slight uphill, but most of it is downhill, and then the ending sprint is about 400 meters. In the last sprint, I believe I was able to pass three runners,” Jusinski said. “It was something I was working for all season, so I’m excited.”
