New police vehicle to be discussed in budget talks

Alburtis Borough Council met Oct. 25 at Alburtis Borough Hall. There was no one in attendance for a public comment.

In the mayoral report, it was noted a new police vehicle should be a priority. It will be discussed in the next budget.

The meeting minutes of Oct. 11, bills for payment and fiscal consultant’s report were all approved. In the Macungie Ambulance report, nine calls were responded to in Alburtis during September.

There were questions about why revenue went down in real estate taxes for the quarter. Borough Manager Stephen Nemeth commented on the slowing housing market in the area compared to this time last year. Plus, more real estate is being turned into rentals in the area.

The meeting then moved to administration.

The first item was a thank-you letter from Barry Isett & Associates. This company assists the borough with code compliance. However, this was not only a thank you, as they reported they made minor increases to their rates.

Next, a Members of Municipal Risk Management Workers’ Compensation Pooled Trust Dividend was received in the amount of $8,101.25. This is an annual dividend check received which goes toward the general fund.

Council received notice from Lower Macungie of a 45-day public comment period for a new official map and a zoning ordinance in relation to structures in the floodplain. This was correspondence with no action needed to be taken.

The last items were information about the new Lehigh Valley Town Center and Top Golf planned in Lower Macungie Township. Again, no action was needed.

There were several small construction projects which were questioned at the end of the meeting.

There were issues that needed to be addressed, including a local resident’s driveway that needed to be corrected. Members of council felt there should be no engineering fees accrued for further work on that project since the engineer oversaw the driveway work.

There were conversations about switching engineering firms due to ongoing issues with billing. Though, again, no action was taken.

The meeting was then adjourned. The next borough meeting will take place 7 p.m. Nov. 8.

Meetings occur 7 p.m. on the second and last Wednesday of every month.
