Nov. 1

The Macungie Institute, 510 E. Main St., Macungie, will host a wine and cheese gathering 6:30 p.m. There is a cost for tickets and space is limited. Tickets are available at the Institute 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays. Ticket purchase is by check only.

The Ancient Oak Women’s Organization will meet 7 p.m. at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 1249 Trexlertown Road, Trexlertown. Bill Barto from the Emmaus Historical Society will give a presentation on children’s television shows from the 1950s and 1960s. All ladies from the community are invited for fun, refreshments and fellowship.

Grace Lutheran Church, 28 W. Main St., Macungie, will hold a free food distribution 2-4 p.m. Also Nov. 8, 15, 22 and 29. Recipients must reside in the East Penn School District. Signs will be posted for parking and food pick up.

Nov. 4

Lehigh Valley Health Network will host a free community drive-thru flu shot clinic 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom, 4000 Dorney Park Road, Allentown. Donations also will be accepted to help those in need. Acceptable donations include diapers, toiletries and nonperishable unexpired food items. Visit the website LVHN.org/flushot to register, complete the required consent form, check dates and locations for other flu shot clinics in the area and other details about the clinics such as maps of the sites.

Nov. 10

Basket social at Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church of Eastern Salisbury, 1707 Church Road, Allentown, 7 p.m. Doors open 5 p.m. To order tickets, contact Louise at 610-866-1611.

Grace Lutheran Church, 28 W. Main St., Macungie, will host a free community meal 4-5:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall at the church. Takeout meals will be available. The meal includes chicken and stuffing casserole, roll and butter, cranberry sauce and dessert.

Nov. 11

Old Zionsville United Church of Christ, 5981 Fountain Road, Old Zionsville, will hold its 26th annual Bazaar & Filled Basket Auction 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Come browse through the crafters and vendors, check out the auction baskets and buy tickets for a chance to win your favorite baskets. Also check out the bake sale. Light refreshments will be for sale for takeout.

The Allentown Music Club will present an All-American program featuring classical, jazz, folk and patriotic music 2 p.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church, 1533 Springhouse Road, Allentown. Performers include Karen El-Chaar, flute; Rachel Holton, oboe; Jonathan Beitler, piano; Sherman Cox, clarinet; Monika Short, soprano; John Lucas, drums; Rich Gonya, bass guitar; John Hayward, keyboard and Joseph Lynn, voice and guitar. Admission is free and the event is sponsored by the National Federation of Music Clubs.

Nov. 14

Two free self-defense workshops will be offered at the Macungie Institute, 510 E. Main St., Macungie. A workshop for seniors will be held 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and an adult class will be held 7-8:30 p.m. Vic Lauer will lead both sessions. RSVP at vrlauer@yahoo.com.

Nov. 15

The Emmaus Historical Society will be hold its monthly program 7 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church Parish Hall, 501 Chestnut St. Presented by Director of Native American Heritage Programs Carla J.S. Messinger, this program will be an in-depth look at the cordial relations of the Lenape, Quaker and Moravians during the early settlement of Pennsylvania and at the later conflicts arising with other European cultures. Once respected “Grandfather” who counseled for peace and arbitrated among the Native Nation, the Lenape were forced to negotiate desperately in a bid to maintain their values and relationship to their part of “Turtle Island.” Programs are free to the public. Refreshments and snacks are served after the program.

Nov. 18

Lehigh County will host a household hazardous waste collection and recycling event 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Coca-Cola Park, 1050 IronPigs Way, Allentown. The event is for county residents only. No commercial items will be accepted from commercial entities. No 55-gallon drums will be accepted. Nov. 28

The Hivel Und Dahl Preservation Society will holds its quarterly meeting and free program 7 p.m. at the Upper Milford Township building, 5671 Chestnut St., Zionsville. The program is titled “Harvest Home Celebration – The Original Pennsylvania German Thanksgiving.” From long before President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed the last Thursday of November as a national day of Thanksgiving in 1863, PA Germans throughout southeastern Pennsylvania had expressed their gratitude to God for another year of harvests to sustain their families and communities. The service was a highlight of the fall season in PA German communities. Bob Gerhart will present the program.

A free holiday luncheon for Macungie borough residents 70 years and older will be held at the Macungie Institute, 510 E. Main St. Seating is limited and reservations must be made by Nov. 3. Call 610-966-7830 to RSVP.
