Audition workshops start Nov. 2 for ‘Cinderella (Enchanted Edition)’

The Allentown Central Catholic High School Theatre Department will present Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Cinderella (Enchanted Edition)” this spring.

There will be several pre-audition workshops, with vocal sessions 5:30-6-30 p.m. Nov. 2 and Nov. 30 and a dance/movement workshop 3-4 p.m. Dec. 1.

All students and their parents are strongly encouraged to attend an informational meeting 6:30 p.m. Nov. 2, following the vocal workshop. The meeting will summarize the commitment involved with the musical and chances for parent involvement. Attendees will also meet the directing team. The first quarter ends Nov. 3 and the second quarter begins Nov. 6, ushering in winter uniforms. Boys and girls must each wear the white button-down Oxford shirt, boys must wear a tie and girls must wear Hunter green or navy blue tights (instead of knee socks) every day. All students must also wear the Flynn O’Hara uniform V-neck sweater or green quarter-zip over their button-down shirts. Students may only purchase the quarter-zip in the school’s finance office.

The first Central open house this academic year will occur 2-4 p.m. Nov. 12. Anyone who registers their child for the 2024-2025 school year will receive $200 off the application fee. Attendees of the open house will tour the school, meet the administration and students and learn about all the clubs and sports Central offers. All boys lacrosse alumni are invited to play in the alumni game 3:30 p.m. Nov. 24 at Grange Field, 360 Grange Road, Allentown.

A social for all families will follow at 1760 Pub and Grille, 1176 Trexlertown Road, Trexlertown.

Raffle tickets for lacrosse cornhole boards will be sold at the game and the social afterward and you do not need to be present to win. Both the game and the social are free for attendees. Email acchsboyslacrosse@gmail.com with any questions.

All seniors were sent an informational email regarding this year’s Senior Week. Senior Week will run Nov. 6-10 with themed dress down days and nightly events.

Nov. 6 will include Homeroom Color Day and a movie night 7 p.m. in Masson Auditorium. Tuesday’s costume day features Barbecue Dads and Soccer Moms and Nov. 8 is Costume Day. All costume ideas must be approved by Nov. 3 and disciplinary actions will take place if students wear unapproved costumes.

The Scavenger Hunt will also take place Nov. 8 throughout the school starting 6 p.m. (the date may change depending on volleyball playoffs). Nov. 9 is “Adam Sandler Day,” with Senior Olympics beginning 6:30 p.m. (date may also possibly change). Senior Week will finish with Mass at Sacred Heart Parish during periods 3-4 and all seniors may wear their designated Senior Week T-shirts.

All seniors must complete the Senior Week 2023-2024 packet they received in the email. Students turn in the completed forms and $20 payment by Nov. 3 in an envelope marked with “Student’s Name” with “Class of 2024 Senior Week Forms” below. The forms and money will be void unless they are in a correctly labeled envelope.

Fall Viking sports teams continue to play in the various league playoffs.

The Vikette soccer team defeated Easton 1-0 in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference semifinals but fell to Parkland in the championship game. The girls advanced in the District 11 2A playoffs after defeating Palmerton Oct. 25 in the quarterfinals. They faced Blue Mountain Oct. 31 in the semifinals, but the game ended too late for this edition.

The boys soccer team is also continuing strong, after overcoming Pine Grove 5-2 in the District 11 2A Quarterfinals.

The cross-country Vikettes earned sixth overall in the EPCs at DeSales University and the boys finished fifth, with Duke Ebert securing eighth place. These runners continued to persevere, with the boys team becoming the 2023 District 11 Champions. The boys will advance to state competition, along with Kate Haring, Rosie Deisher, Duke Ebert and Will Haring, who all earned spots as individual runners.

After a very successful season, the Vikette volleyball team finished as the runner-up in the EPC Championship and continued in the District 11 3A playoffs, facing Blue Mountain Oct. 31 in the semifinals.

Finally, this year’s much-anticipated Holy War proved victorious for the Vikings Oct. 28, with a 24-14 score over Bethlehem Catholic.

Bishop Schlert led a pregame prayer and all football players, cheerleaders and band and color guard members were honored at their senior night.

The CYO basketball season is almost here and St. Mike’s Gym needs assistants. Gym helpers will operate the scoreboard during games and prepare and clean the gym before and after games. Participants may choose shifts on Friday night, Saturday or Sunday and earn service hours or $12/hour. Email colfitzpat@gmail.com to sign up.

This is a reminder that all students will be dismissed 11:30 a.m. Nov. 3.
