SCOUTING FOR FOOD: The annual food collection drive by local Scouting units takes place the weekends of Nov. 4 and Nov. 11. On the first weekend, Scouts distribute bags and or door hangers to let neighbors know about the drive. On the second weekend, Scouts revisit those houses to pick up bags of canned food and other nonperishable items. Donations made local stay local.
FREE TROOP PACKAGES: From the Lehigh Valley Military Council: Support The Troops sends free packages to our Military men and women year round. While stateside, we send them one free care package to let them know America supports them. While serving overseas, we send them throughout their deployment. MARINE CORPS MONUMENT CEREMONY: The Bethlehem and Lehigh Valley Marine Corps League detachments and the local Inspector-Instructor staff of India Battery in Allentown will be celebrating the 248th birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps in the annual ceremony at Cedar Beach Park, Nov. 10 at 4 p.m. The program lasts approximately 30 minutes and includes a ceremony, color guard, bugle rendition of the Marine Corps Hymn, a soloist sings the national anthem, etc. A cake cutting ceremony honoring the oldest and youngest Marines will be held afterward. Cedar Beach Park is located at 24th and Hamilton streets in Allentown.
HI NEIGHBORS: First Pres-Bethlehem presents “Armchair Travelogue: A Trip to Germany” during its Hi Neighbors: Hot Topics for Inquisitive Adults series
Offered by First Presbyterian Church of Bethlehem, the popular speakers program, “Hi Neighbors,” continues its fall series of programs Nov. 6, with a presentation about the speaker’s summer trip to Germany.
Speaker David Macbeth, First Pres’ director of music ministries, will take participants on an armchair travelogue with stories and images from his family’s recent trip to Germany. Macbeth is also a founding member of the faculty at Lehigh Valley Charter High School of the Arts, where he is vocal department artistic director.
On Nov. 20 Macbeth will return to Hi Neighbors with his vocal students from Charter Arts, to make a special musical presentation.
All programs are offered at the church building, 2344 Center St., Bethlehem and are open to all (no fee or pre-registration). Each session begins at 9:30 a.m. in Fellowship Hall with a social time. The presentations begin at 10 a.m.
