First-time film-maker screens short in Easton

“Till Another Time” is the debut film of 21- year-old Luc Nixon.

Nixon has lived in Easton all his life, and his short was filmed in his hometown, at Magic’s Gas and Grille (now 611 Food Mart), Pearly Baker’s Alehouse and Angelo’s Restaurant.

“Till Another Time” was screened at 7 p.m. Oct. 27, Buck Hall, Lafayette College, 219 N. Third St., Easton, followed by a Q&A with Nixon. The screening was free and open to the public.

Nixon says that the approximate 20-minute film “is about dealing with relationships and meeting unexpected people.” He calls it “a love letter to 20th-century American cinema.”

“While writing, I watched a lot of films from the 70s and 80s, including ones by

Jim Jarmusch and Robert Altman. Those were the best movies ever made,” Nixon says in a phone interview.

Nixon chose to not make the film in color:

“I was inspired by the way black and white looked. Older independents had to shoot that way. This way it looked more professional and less like a student film, where the color can be off.”

“Till Another Time” took 10 days to shoot at its three locations.

The plot, which deals with romantic troubles, is somewhat personal. “It was based on a breakup I was going through, and on conversations I had with friends,” he says.

The title is derived from as song by Linda Smith from her album, “Till Another Time: 1988-1996.”

When he is not doing his own projects, Nixon works on film crews for commercials and narrative films in Philadelphia and New York City.

Nixon has worked on the feature films of Bethlehem native Daniel Roebuck, including ”Lucky Louie” and “Getting Grace.” He met most of the crew for his film while doing the Roebuck movies.

Nixon has submitted his short to film festivals, including those in the Lehigh Valley.

Nixon dedicated his film to his mother, Dawn Ouellette Nixon, who appears in “Till Another Time.”

“People can make a [film] project as long as they need to tell a story. You can even write and film a movie on your phone.

“I hope that mine will get others to go out and shoot something themselves, and inspire people to make something of their own,” says Nixon.
