Volunteer opportunities

Are you considering joining or currently serving on a nonprofit board and want to become a more informed participant? Volunteer Center of the Lehigh Valley is offering LEAD Now; a five part leadership training program providing relevant guidance on nonprofit board service. Two sessions remain – Nonprofit Finances Oct. 31 and Understanding DE&I on the Board Nov. 7. Programs are virtual 4-5:30 p.m. Register at www.volunteerlv.org/LEAD-Now. Assist with literacy activities in a kindergarten or first grade classroom in the Allentown School District one hour per week or more. Clearances and attendance at an orientation session are required. The next orientation session is scheduled 1-2 p.m. Nov. 9 at Hays Elementary School, Allentown. Seeking friendly volunteers to help at the admissions/museum store register for America On Wheels Museum, Allentown. Training is available and simple. Shift times are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. or 1–4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. Choose one day per week or per month. Urgent need for the fourth Sunday of every month. St. Luke’s D&L “RaceFest” is bringing a full marathon back to the Lehigh Valley. They’re also hosting a marathon relay, half marathon run and half marathon walk all on the same day. Join Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor Nov. 12 for a race weekend to remember. They’re recruiting volunteers to help in various roles, locations, time frames and dates. Can you help by picking up donated food from Giant at 25th street in Easton and taking it to the Easton Area Community Center? Once a week, at 11:30 a.m. every Thursday, Giant will help load your SUV. The food then needs to come to the food pantry in Easton. Contact Kathryn Presto at 610-253-8271 or kpresto@eaccpa.org.

As one of PA’s largest nursing homes, Gracedale is always buzzing with activity. Volunteers assist residents with in-house appointments including clinics and beauty shop. Opportunities available between 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday. Flexible scheduling. Background check and training required. All volunteers must be vaccinated against COVID-19. Hardworking volunteers are needed on Fridays to assist with unloading the van of food donations and stocking shelves in the pantry at Hispanic Center of Lehigh Valley in Bethlehem. Volunteers will bring down the donation, weigh and organize the food on shelves. This is a great opportunity for groups to volunteer together. New Bethany has opportunities to help assemble kits for the 26th annual Luminaria Night. This is a great opportunity for groups and school students to volunteer together. Volunteers will help assemble kits consisting of candles, sand and paper bags, 4-6 p.m. Monday through Thursday through Nov. 30, at Promenade Shops, (near LL Bean.)
