Roughies Report: WISE open to CHS female students

Any Catasauqua High School female who is interested in a STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, math) career can apply to attend the annual WISE (Women in Science & Engineering) forum, set for 5:30 p.m. Nov. 14 at the Americus Hotel, 555 Hamilton St., Allentown.

The WISE forum is back in person with a networking and mentoring reception for high school girls to connect with female STEAM professionals. It also includes a public panel discussion where four distinguished women in STEAM will share their perspectives on working in STEAM fields and the opportunities and challenges women face when pursuing a career in male-dominated fields.

The deadline to apply is Oct. 31.

CHS students are encouraged to apply to fill a vacant after-school student worker position at Catasauqua Middle School. Students will be responsible for collection of trash and recycling from classrooms, light dusting and other duties as assigned.

The position consists of two hours per day, after classes, on school days. The rate of pay is $10 per hour.

Clearances are required.

There is still time to register for Lehigh Career & Technical Institute’s annual open house, set for 6-8 p.m. Nov. 2 the school, 4500 Education Park Drive, Schnecksville. Doors will open 5:45 p.m.

Eighth- and ninth-graders will have the opportunity to meet teachers from programs that interest them, learn about college-prep courses that are available in the academic center and talk to school counselors about the application process.
