The Emmaus High School girls volleyball team is going to be looking forward to the District 11 tournament next week. In their most recent match, the Green Hornets were defeated in four sets by Central Catholic in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference quarterfinal round this past Saturday afternoon at Rockne Hall.
The third seeded Vikettes won over the sixth seeded Green Hornets by scores of 26-28, 25-13, 25-16, 25-17 to advance to the semifinal round where they played the second seed, Pleasant Valley this past Tuesday.
Emmaus won the opening set in a thriller to take the early 1-0 lead and had all of the momentum, but Central Catholic quickly answered and took care of business the rest of the way to take the match.
In the match, Amanda Rivera Ayala led the Green Hornet attack with 14 kills and added a season-high 22 digs and two aces. Alyssa Heffner tallied a double-double as well with 27 assists and 11 digs. Lauren Horvath contributed a team-high 27 digs and two aces. Jasmine Shahda recorded eight kills and Haley Seidel finished with three aces and eight digs.
Emmaus will be glad to not have to see Central Catholic again this year, as the Vikettes drop down a classification in districts and states. The two teams met twice during the regular season with Central winning both matches.
The Green Hornets ended the regular season dropping their last three matches, including losses to the Vikettes, Southern Lehigh and Parkland. They will be looking to start another win streak when the district tournament opens up next week. Emmaus will await its seeding and matchup.
