Patricia M. Martin

Patricia M. Martin, 83, died on Oct. 13, 2023, while in hospice care at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.

Her death resulted from complications following a fall, which occurred Aug. 9 outside her home.

Born in New York City, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Robert J. and Marinez Mack.

Her family returned to St. Petersburg, Fla., when she was 5 years of age.

There, she was known by her nickname, “Patches.”

She graduated from St. Petersburg High School, earned a Bachelor’s degree in 1962 from Florida State University and later a Master’s degree from the University of South Florida, Tampa.

Upon graduation, she embarked on a teaching career.

She married Charles H. Hicks III in 1964 and they had two children.

She later began a career as an association executive, first with the St. Petersburg Bar Association where she served as executive director for 11 years.

She was named executive director of the Bucks County Bar Association in 1987 and retired after 18 years of service in 2005.

She was recognized for her expertise in leadership of these associations by both the Florida Bar and the Pennsylvania Bar associations.

In 1989, she married Jim Martin and they enjoyed a loving relationship for more than 34 years.

She was an indispensable partner in his life and in his legal and political career.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by children from her previous marriage Robert C. Hicks and his wife, Beverly, Laurel H. Wethington and her husband, Trey; stepdaughters Rachel B., Kristen C. and her husband, Todd May; grandchildren Parker Wethington and his wife, Ginny, Courtney Wethington, Ryan and Tyler Hicks, and Grainne and Sylvie May; sister Jennifer M. Dameron and her companion, Bill Meredith; brother Robert H. Mack and his wife, June.

Contributions may be made to Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Hospital, Center Valley or to Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, Hospice Unit, in thanks and recognition of the compassionate and excellent care she received over the past two months at those hospitals or to a charity of one’s choice.

Friends are invited to a visitation 5:30-7:30 p.m. Oct. 20 and 10 a.m. until the funeral service at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 21 at the funeral home.
