Orville H. Freitag

Orville H. “Obie” Freitag, 75, of Allentown, died Oct. 8, 2023, in Lehigh Valley Inpatient Hospice Unit, Allentown.

He and his wife, Karen (Theodore) Freitag, were married 21 years in April.

Born in Baltimore, Md., he was a son of the late Orville H. Sr. and Florence (Neuner) Freitag.

He retired in 2014 from FedEx SmartPost, Breinigsville, as senior human resources business partner.

He previously held human resource, management and financial positions in commercial banking, Merchants and Lehigh Valley banks, and manufacturing, Delbar Products, Allison Manufacturing and Phoenix Clothes.

He was a member of the Sertoma, Allentown Lions and Alton Park Lions clubs; Marine Band of Allentown, with which he was still active as a trumpet player for more than 20 years, Jordan Sinfonia at Jordan Evangelical Lutheran Church as a trumpet player for more than 40 years, American Legion Post 200 Hampstead, Md., and the Society for Human Resource Management, Lehigh Valley Chapter.

He honorably served six years in the U.S. Army Reserve and Pa. Army National Guard during the Vietnam War.

He earned an Associate in Liberal Arts degree from Lehigh County Community College, a Bachelor’s degree in professional studies, business management from Elizabethtown College, and a Master’s in Business Administration degree from Saint Joseph’s College.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Sara Collins (Brad) of Fogelsville; son Michael of Allentown; stepson Todd Theodore (Bevin) of Lower Macungie; sister Belle Graver (Chris) of Easley, S.C.; brothers Nick Freitag (Cindy) of Mt. Airy, N.C., Bill Freitag (Diane) of Easley, S.C., and Del Freitag (Jimmie) of Easley; grandchildren Andrew, Ava, Ella, Eli and Claire; and nieces and nephews.
