Lynn board to replace Feinour

A vacancy board meeting has been confirmed for 5:30 p.m. Oct. 25 at the Lynn Township Municipal Building.

The meeting, which is open to the public, is to name a replacement for former supervisor, Steve Feinour, who resigned last month citing health reasons.

Ron Jerdon, Greg Snyder and Jason Moyer each submitted applications to the board for consideration.

Although it had been expected Feinour’s successor would be named during the Oct. 12 supervisors’ meeting, there was an unexpected turn of events.

Supervisors Justin Smith and Brian Dietrich were unable to agree on a candidate to fulfill the remainder of his term.

Township Solicitor Marc Fisher explained the vacancy board would have to meet within the next 15 days to discuss and try to name a new supervisor.

The vacancy board is comprised of Supervisors Smith and Dietrich, and Kermit DeLong, who was not present at the meeting.

Smith and Dietrich engaged in a conversation with Fisher about a time and date, with both supervisors indicating a desire for an evening meeting.

This would potentially allow more residents to attend, without work restrictions and allowing for more transparency in the process.

It was agreed the township would reach out to Delong to confirm what is now an Oct. 25 evening meeting.

According to Fisher, if the vacancy board is unable to agree on someone that night, the decision for appointment of a new supervisor will be left to a judge.

In other matters, both Lynnport and New Tripoli volunteer firefighters have been busy with fire prevention awareness.

Members of the Lynn-port Fire Company visited Jacob’s Church for Fire Prevention Month.

Northwestern Elementary School had a visit from members of Community Fire Company of New Tripoli for the school’s Fire Safety Week.

Firefighters will visit Ebenezer United Church of Christ on Oct. 23.

Fire Chief Gary Kuntz said the four regional fire companies are working on a Christmas party, slated for Dec. 9.

The Ontelaunee Park Christmas Tree Lighting, held in collaboration with the Chamber of Commerce, is scheduled for Dec. 3.
