Anthony J. “Tony” Sommer, 89, of died peacefully Oct. 6, 2023, in his home at Rittenhouse Village of Allentown.
The widower of Barbara A. (Schuch) Sommer since 2009, he was born in Northampton to the late Joseph and Mary (Heindl) Sommer.
He was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, Orefield.
He graduated high school from The Pontifical College Josephinum in Worthington, Ohio, and worked at Mack Trucks for 30 years until retiring in 1987.
A longtime Eagles and Tigers fan, he was an avid golfer and loved attending sporting events of all his grandchildren.
His survivors include a daughter Anita M. Beitzer and husband, Bruce, of Allentown; granddaughters Amanda Beitzer and Kara (Sean) Tucker; grandson Kyle (Kayla) Beitzer; great-granddaughters Ellen, Nora and Faye Tucker; sister Margaret Bannon; brothers Edward (Peggy) Sommer and Dennis (Cheryl) Sommer; companion Joanne Collette; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sister Mary Jandrasits and brothers John, Joseph and Alfred.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Msgr. Robert J. Wargo 11 a.m. Oct. 23 in St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, 1879 Applewood Drive, Orefield, where his family will receive guests beginning at 10 a.m.
Inurnment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Krocks Road, Allentown.
