Football looking for win vs. LHS
Whitehall’s football season is in a bit of a free-fall.
With their latest, 30-14 loss to Allentown Central Catholic, the Zephyrs have slipped to 4-4. That loss extended their losing streak to three games.
Whitehall will travel to Bethlehem Thursday night for a showdown with Liberty, which is coming off a 21-6 loss to Emmaus.
The Hurricanes have dropped six straight since they began the season with a 2-0 record.
So, something has to give here.
Whitehall head coach Andy Marino plans to stay the course.
“Congrats to Central,” said Marino. “They won a hard-fought game. We have a quick turnaround and have to get ready for Liberty.
“Our kids have kept their work ethic, and our practices have been good. We just have to keep our focus.”
Senior quarterback Trey Dogmanits, who completed 13 of 28 passes for 201 yards with a touchdown, doesn’t want anyone to judge the team based on their record alone.
“I think that even with our record the past three games, it does not show the state of our team right now,” said Dogmanits. “We have played decently in the first three quarters, but we weren’t able to finish and win.
“I think our spirits will be higher going into Liberty.”
PREDICTION (Overall record 4-4): Since 2103, Whitehall has a 6-3 lead in the series. The two teams didn’t play in 2020 ... Carter Troxell rushed for 91 yards on 21 carries with a touchdown against ACC ... Bryce Bashore had six catches for 76 yards and Kaden Weaver grabbed four balls for 80 yards ... Zephyrs were in the game against ACC through three quarters. They went through a rough part of their schedule with Parkland, Nazareth, and ACC ... Zephyrs are currently third in the District 11 Class 5A bracket and they can’t afford to lose any more games with Pleasant Valley on their heels ... Zephyrs desperately need a win to aid their mental state ... The real issue will be if they are ready for an early-week game ... Like the Zephyrs here, and they have Northampton the following week. They need to get off to a quick start. Liberty is paced by Gabriel Green, who has rushed for 672 yards, and quarterback Carmen Vermuelen has thrown for 458 yards ... Zephyrs will finally get it done, and the WHS boys’ basketball coach can get me a small pizza from Wawa. Have been meaning to try that ... ZEPHYRS 24-18.
