LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Vera Cruz fire station holds open house

Even with the best of planning, bad weather can put a damper on a fire department’s open house activities. Such was the case on a rainy Saturday afternoon, Oct. 7, at the Upper Milford Township Vera Cruz fire station.

A visit by Smokey Bear and the promise of fire safety souvenirs, hot dogs and a tour of the fire department’s equipment drew some hardy friends and neighbors to the fire station. Most came with the intent of giving their children a weekend day out of the house.

However, dodging raindrops is not a promising weekend activity.

But, the firefighters were not discouraged. They are used to being called out in all kinds of weather to help their community. This was just another of their volunteer activities in the interest of their community’s residents.
