Township’s 2024 budget process underway

At the Sept. 13 East Allen Township Board of Supervisors meeting, township Manager Brent Green discussed the 2024 general fund budget. It is typical for municipalities to begin the budget process in September.

Green told the supervisors he had already contacted department representatives within the township to share their thoughts about what their expected needs are for 2024. Green then extended the same courtesy to the supervisors, asking them what they think should be included in the upcoming budget.

Three of the five supervisors at the meeting answered Green’s inquiry.

They said, one after another, “No tax hike.”

Green reported he expects to get a budget draft to the supervisors this month. If there are no issues, he said, the 2024 budget can be approved in November or December.

In other business, the board approved a settlement agreement with East Allen Township Volunteer Ambulance Corps. The pact was described by Green as a mutual release.

Resolution 2023-17 also amended the compensation of the township manager.

The board approved the purchase of a wide-area mower, at a cost of about $136,000.

There was a discussion about speed signage and speed limit ordinances. Green reported some township roads need speed limit signs. He added a road without signage has a de facto speed limit of 55 mph. Green said some road speed studies will have to be done on some township roads.
